propel from power

I have come across a sentense saying "defeat propelled the military from power" which according to me means that "the military became more aggressive after the defeat". But I wanted to make sure.

Source: Histories of Nations, Ed. Peter Furtado.

Context: Argentina History, after the Falkland war.

Thank you very much in advance for your answers...

Defeat propelled (pushed) the military out of power. After being defeated, the military was forced out of power. They were no longer in control.
