Dickens needed mirros in which to pull faces imitative of his characters.

Does the above sentence mean as follows?
Dickens needed mirros where he tried to make expressions on his face
similiar to his characters on his novels.

    You have the correct understanding.

    Dickens had a great imagination when it came to creating his characters. I imagine when he thought of one he would try to picture what the person's face was like. If you have read Dickens you will know that he was very detailed in his descriptions.

    I suppose he would sit looking in a mirror, pulling an appropriate face for the character he was creating, then describing the image he saw reflected.

    You can try this yourself. Try to imagine a person with certain character traits, such as a mischievous child, a cruel villain, a kind grandmother. Then make the appropriate face in a mirror. You will see your imagined character coming to life! :)

    Let the mass face pulling begin. :D
