Pull your socks up

Senior Member
I know this is an idiom especially used in BE, I'm wondering if it's still much heard in AM?

By the way, if I don't mean to ask others to make an effort. Just ask them to mind their socks they wear, for example, a little child, who runs or toddles on the mattress or floor, but their socks may get off easily if they're loose. I want he/she to put the socks on again. Then can I say: Pull up your socks/pull your socks up in this situation? Or what is the best way to mean this?
