Push through all to the front

Hi all.
I want a phrase for the following context for figurative use:

There is a crowd. One person Pushes past everybody and gets to the front, like in the following sentence:

He pushed through all his competitors and got to the front (figuratively).

Is it okay in the original form? Or there should be some other phrase for this kind of figurative use?

Thank you very much.
