Crying women may literally turn men off. Odorless chemical signals in a woman’s waterworks lessen any stirrings of sexual interest in a guy who whiffs her tear-stained cheeks, a new study suggests.

I found that "turn men off"/"a turn-off" and "put men off"/"off-putting" are similar. What would you say if it is "Crying women may literally put men off"? Thanks

I'd say that they are pretty similar. To put a man off is to discourage him, but to turn him off more explicitly means that you make him lose sexual interest.
