Question about primitive speech

Hi, I'd like to ask how best it would be to put the following idea across. If I want to put it diplomatically - her speech is a bit on the crude side (meaning it has basic simple words and no good difficult enough words, where for her as a learner of English there should be some), will crude be the very word to use?
Thank you!

"Crude" could be interpreted as "rude" or obscene language, so it would not be a good diplomatic choice. "Simplistic" and your own choice of "basic" would be clearer, but again might not be diplomatic, depending on the personal context. Diplomacy might require some careful rephrasing, suggesting that she make the effort to move beyond the beginner level and try to learn some more advanced vocabulary.
