    Hello all,

I live in Mexico and have seen this abbreviation R.F.C. which stands for Registro Federal del Contribuyente. Can anybody tell me if this is anything like a Social Security number in the U.S.

US but live in Chile - native language is English
If individuals have an RFC it would be the same as a social security number, if it is only companies that have a RFC then it is only a TIN.

In México, individual workers (anyone who has a formal job) companies, institutions, schools, etc. have RFC. It is your Id. for paying taxes.

Corporations usually have a EIN,Employer Identification number. I just use my Social Security number, but they are all TINs.
