Rain forest destruction, which releases the carbon dioxide stored in trees, is estimated to account for 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions globally.---taken from the New York Times
Dear all,

If I remove the relative clause "which releases...", does the remained part sound logical?

Rain forest destruction is estimated to account for 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions globally.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's logical... but without the clause, many people will be wondering why? Some will think that it might be from the fuel-burning machinery needed to cut down the trees. The clause is unknown knowledge for most people and is therefore valuable information. It will open some eyes.
