"My heart struck rapid as I heard someone come in."

Hello everyone, will it be better if I put the original sentence in this way?

"My heart struck rapidly as I heard someone come in."

Best is "My heart beat rapidly when....". Another adverb (the same in adjectival form) is fast. "My heart beat fast...."
When is more accurate than as since it means after I heard someone come in.
    Clocks strike, hearts beat.
