record growth

Hello!

Here's a sentence in which I can't understand somethin.

That is partly due to Google's own success; it's hard to keep posting record growth rates when you dominate a business so thoroughly -- Google sites lead the U.S. market with 64% of all searches conducted.

Is record an adjective which says bigger than other growth rates, or record growth rates is a paper with rates written on ?

Thanks

Yes, record is an adjective here meaning "the best, highest or most extreme (since being recorded)".

    Hope that makes sense.
