renewal

Hello, everyone

Please help me to sort out the following question: (the context - Certificates of Authorization to apply the ASME Certification Mark to items built in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code)

"Since a renewal notice will be mailed eight months prior to the expiration date shown on the enclosed Certificates and H (Cast Iron) and UM yearly renewals will be mailed six months prior to that date, to the individual and address shown above, it is important that we be informed of any changes. In any case, it is your responsibility that we receive renewal applications at least six months [four months in the case of H (Cast Iron) and UM] prior to the expiration of the enclosed Certificates"

The way I see it, they send the certificate renewal notice eight month prior to the exp. date, and, what is meant by renewal in bold?

TIA

It seems there are three renewal notices: for the enclosed Certificates, for H (Cast Iron) and for UM. So the "renewals" refers to the renewal notices for the last two items, which are mailed six months prior to expiration, rather than the eight months prior to expiration for the enclosed Certificates.

There are four components to the sentence:
Since a renewal notice will be mailed eight months prior to the expiration date shown on the enclosed Certificates
and H (Cast Iron) and UM yearly renewals will be mailed six months prior to that date,
to the individual and address shown above,
it is important that we be informed of any changes.

This is reflected in the second sentence, in which each of those mailings have two months subtracted from them.
