Reorienting break

Hello

What adjective can we use before "break" to mean that we are going to use the break to reorganize our priorities, find new goals, and find new methods to reach our goals?

A: What do you do for a living?
B: Oh, right now I'm on a ............. break. I'm thinking I probably shouldn't continue to work as a teacher and should have a career shift. I still haven't found out what I'll do exactly.

    • As you have described the type of break, by saying "I'm thinking I probably shouldn't continue to work as a teacher and should have a career shift", you don't need an adjective.

    I don't think there is an adjective that means all of this. Your meaning is clear, after the 15 bold words. But there probably isn't one word.

    The closest short phrase I can think of is "career re-evaluation". You can treat that noun phrase as adjectival, and say "a career re-evaluation break".
     
    I'm on( "taking" would be more idiomatic in US-English) a rest and reconsideration break. Or if you want to be humorous, you could say "a mid-life crisis break." Or you could be literal and say "I'm taking a break to think about what I should be doing next in life."
