Fruits- are the edible ripened seed-bearing part of a plant.

Can I translate this sentence as:

Fruits – ce sont la part du grain d'une plante comestible à maturité.
it sounds a bit constipated, doesn't it?
merci

perhaps la partie d'une plante comestible a maturité qui porte les graines would be better?
The problem then would be - what is comestible? Is it une plante comestible, or une partie comestible?
As I worded it, comestible is attached to qui, which refers to la partie.
    OK - it's not handsome, but precise:eek:...
