    سلطان/سلطانة (sultaan/sultaanah) is another option for king/queen (and yes it was used until recently to refer to European monarchs).

    I think words like sultaan, shah, rajah, etc., are indeed non-European equivalents to king. Feel free to write the cultural equivalents! Specially if you know about their hierarchy. Thanks!!
