Hi,
Are these words the same meaning or are they different from one another.
1. rubbish
2. litter
3. trash
4. waste
5. garbage

    These words overlap, but they are not identical.

    Any of the others may become litter if thrown or left in the wrong place.

    Trash is very AE; it is not often used in BE.

    And rubbish is BE (?) Also "rubbish" is what I would say to disparage what someone says. "Trash" is often used (albeit rather US) to disparage people (trailer trash). I would say that "garbage" is US too, apart from here you do hear "you're talking garbage". "Waste", I think, is either unwanted food or animal effluence.
