Run abound.

Hi everyone.
I have a question about this sentence that was used in a headline:
"Misconceptions run abound about..."
As far as I know and the Longman dictionary says, "abound" is a verb. So, how does the combination of run and abound work?
Shouldn't it just be "Misconceptions abound about..."?
Thanks!

Yes, the headline sentence is incorrect.

The writer may have mixed up "abound" and "run around" (as in "there are rumors running around about...").
