Run wild Vs Run riot?

She loves to run wild/riot when her folks are away.

Enlighten me on this please:), Don´t they mean the same?

    Not exactly—but it really depends on the speaker's meaning. To my mind, running riot is probably destructive, while running wild can simply be extravagant.

    Good point, for instance: By throwing a party when her parents are away, the kind of party that upset the whole place. Would it be the former or the latter?

    I think the difference between which word to use would depend on the type of activities she loves to do when her folks are away. For example, 'running wild' sounds like a lot of partying, drinking, etc. However, running riot sounds more like violent behavior such as fighting or destruction of property, etc.
