s'étendre sur X km

Hi,

I'd like to say something like "Cette région s'étend sur 100 km du nord au sud et sur 50 km de l'est à l'ouest". I am not so sure how to translate 's'étendre sur'. I guess 'sur' doesn't need to be translated here: "This region stretches 100 km from north to south and 50 km from east to west".
Is that correct?

Thanks,
Arnaud

Thank you Kelly B for your quick answer. Now that you say it, extend sounds better. Stretch was the first word that came to mind but I wasn't completely satisfied with it.
