¿Cuál es la traducción más habitual en inglés para "salí a dar un paseo", "left for a walk"?

    I don't disagree, but personally I would say, I went out for a walk.

    I think what is most common depends on the person and the region.

    I think you can even omit the word 'out' (i.e. "I went for a walk") because it's obvious you're not walking inside the house...

    That's true, although you can also "go for a walk" when you're already outside, so it doesn't hurt to make it clear that you were inside and then went "out" for a walk.

    I agree with everyone else. "I left" is gramatically correct, but it might give the idea that you went somewhere else after the walk. "I went for a walk," would probably work in any situation.
