Hi,

Paul: Did you hear Sandy talking to Gordon today?
Jane: No, what were they talking about?
Paul: Sandy was telling him how she thinks he has great taste in clothes.
Does the part highlighted sound idiomatic to you? What I meant is that the sentence seems better to me if replacing how with that:

Paul: Sandy was telling him that she thinks he has great taste in clothes.
Do you think so?

    It's idiomatic. "That" is better.

    Just keep in mind that sometimes writers use idiomatic phrases to relate something about the characters they're writing about.
