Here's the context!

Groups less populous than others. With less subjects included. Like comparing the rat population of NYC to the rat population in the Arctic Circle. The Arctic Rats are a scantier group.

I would say, in this context, producing clusters of fewer words. Or less groups in general of words. Maybe less groups in general of words, because it would be tougher to make groups of words in two different languages.
