Schnauze !

Hi,
I'm tring to translate into English the following dialog :

- Schnauze !
- Schnauzer ? Wuff, wuff !

I'd like to find a pun that would end by the second man barking.

I could write :

-Shut (the fuck) up, bitch!
-Bitch ? Woof, woof !

But does it work with a man ?
Does somebody have a better idea ?

Das frage ich mich auch.
Frauen haben je bekanntlich keinen "Schnauzer", deshalb funktioniert das Wortspiel meiner Meinung nach nicht mit "bitch".

Vielleicht mit "hound-dog"?

-Hound-dog? Woof, woof !

Ich finde, das Wortspiel funktioniert sogar sehr gut. Die Doppelbedeutung bitch = Hündin oder bitch=Schlampe ist doch fabelhaft, um danach ein woof, woof anzuschließen. Dafür, dass solche Scherze schwer übersetzbar sind, ist das hier fabelhaft gelungen.

Aber da sich der Dialog an einen Mann richtet, passt "bitch" vielleicht nicht? Das müsste ein Englisch-Muttersprachler entscheiden.

"Schnauze" means "shut the fuck up" and that fits well in style. So the translator had to implement the dog association separately and succeeded!

The connection of bitch and woof is a perfect pun.

Eins ist m.E. sicher: das französische 1:1 entsprechende Äquivalent - auch im übertragenen Sinn - für "bitch" ⇒ "chienne" würde nicht funktionieren, da der Schlagabtausch zwischen zwei Männern einen zweideutigen Beigeschmack bekäme.
