sell out beliefs

In The Simpsons Movie Nelson punches Milhouse and says, "That's for selling out your beliefs."

But all the dictionaries say sell out is intransitive in this meaning.
Can we sell out only a person?
Is what Nelson said good English?

Thanks in advance.

All the dictionaries don't say that. From the Wordreference dictionary
(transitive) informal to betray, esp through a secret agreement
(intransitive) informal to abandon one's principles, standards, etc
    "That's for betraying your beliefs."
