Shh!

What would be the equivalent of "shh!" in Italian, i.e. the noise you make to tell someone to be quiet?

Grazie,
Bianca Maria

  • I think you can also spell it simply "Shhh",
"Tsss" sometimes expresses indignation (as in Tsk!)
If you want something a little less onomatopeic you can say: Shush!, Hush! etc. ;)

Wow -- you mean you can say "shush" or "hush" in Italian?!? That seems weird to me, since there is no "h" in Italian? Is this an imported expression?

I'm so sorry!!! I forgot about the language you were asking for!!

In Italian you spell it either "SSHHH" or "SSSTTT" there is no fixed form as long as you make yourself clear.
And again for less onomatopeic words you can use "Taci!" which is quite effective and exactly what I'm going to do right now after what I said earlier! =)

I use the expression Shush and Hush here in Italy but among friends and in italy is a form not recognised.. I just said something stupid! Sorry!
