Should I say 'as a platform' or 'as platform' in the sentence below?

Semiconductors offer great advantages as platform of optical switches.

Please also point out other mistakes, if any, thanks!

You should definitely use the article "a."

I don't really know anything about electronics, but I think "for" would work better than "of", and definitely use "a".
