I'd like know if there is some difference between these adjectives.
I want to use it for a human voice.

The voice of my aunt is a shrill voice
The voice of my aunt is a grating voice
The voice of my aunt is a piercing voice

Some of them are most painfull? What is the degree of pain?
Thanks

They don’t mean the same. And although “piercing” implies inflicting pain more than the others, it doesn’t really work. There can be a piercing scream or yell, but I don’t think a person’s voice would itself be described that way.
