Hi,

Can I possibly replace turn off with shut off in the scenarios below:

1) shut off the light
2) shut off the AC
3) shut off the fan
4) shut off the water
5) shut off the TV
6) shut off the washer
7) shut off your battery operated toy
8) shut off the gas stove

Thank you for all the advice. How about the power supply/power box? Can I say shut off the electricity and shut off the power box"

I would say yes. Such an expression would sound natural to me. But two British English contributors have said no. I think you would be understood in any case, but you'll sound odd to British speakers.
