    Hi, everyone:

I wonder what's the sound of a fire engine siren.

Could you please tell me the word to describe the sound?

    Is it "woo"?

    Best wishes.

This is very difficult to answer.
Our fire engines are very vocal - they make a range of different sounds - and I have no idea what yours sound like.

To illustrate, here's the first hit from a search for fire engine siren sounds

I am translating an emergency drill procedure. The emergency signal is "three short ...... followed by one long one" on the siren.
On ships, it is three blasts of the ship's horn or siren (but a siren normally 'wails' rather than blast). Emergency bells ring.
So can anyone help me with an appropriate word, or will I have to get round it by saying 'the siren will be give three short signals followed by one long one' ?
    Many thanks
