sneaking a peek

I´m familiar with the phrase "sneak a peek" - i.e. to see a short clip of e.g. a movie before it is officially released; I´m also aware it could refer to observing something/someone secretly...However, in the context below, I don´t think it implies any of these, does it? If she reads messages on Facebook, I can hardly imagine it´s done in secret.
Could you please give me a clue? Many thanks.
