software that retrieves data from a machine

Hi fellas,

I'm a little unsure of whether the partitive dei or the article i or nothing at all would be better in the following sentence:

XXX is a type of software that retrieves data from a machine and supplies the data on a PC in an adjustable format.

Attempt: XXX è un tipo di software che reperisce (dei/i) dati da una macchina e che fornisce i dati su un PC in un formato adattabile.

I think "dei" is okay but would like confirmation. And I'm pretty sure the second mentioning of "dati" requires the article "i."

The context is, of course, software that gets data produced when a machine runs (for example, efficiency data of a machine) and then supplies (or displays) the data on a computer.

Thanks!

Ach, I wanted to use "recuperare" originally before I doubted myself and looked in the dictionary/forums and found "reperimento di dati" for "data retrieval" (in addition to this thread).

So what's the difference between "recuperare"/"recupero" and "reperire"/"reperimento"?

Let's say your HD is screwed and you're trying to see if you can rescue some of your data: in this context "recuperare i dati".
You can also use recuperare when the action involved is more complicated than simply copying the data from a device to another or from a PC to another.
Reperire means more "go look for/find" and maybe it's not the best choice here..

Well in this case we're not talking about potentially lost data.. we're not trying to "recover" anything.

Data retrieval is a very common term in computer science: it simply refers to going and getting data about something.

Let me expand the context a bit with an example. Suppose I have a machine. I have software X that calculates the efficiency of that machine. I have another software Y that accesses and "retrieves" the data produced by software X and then displays it to me. How would I then say: Software X retrieves efficiency data (produced by software Y) about the machine. ?
