    How does one translate the idea of 'soon to be' into french? Ex: Curiace was called upon to combat his soon to be brother-in-law, Horace.

    If you say "son futur beau-frère", you loose the "soon", so you have to make a longer sentence : "celui qui allait bientôt être son beau-frère/celui qui s'apprêtait à devenir son beau-frère".

    one could also say (this way keeping the sentence short): "son beau-père en devenir".
    Depending on the context, but it represents well both the "soon" and "to be" parts.
