sounded much more like a prayer

The grammar looks okay, but whether it makes any sense in its context (which you haven’t even hinted at), it’s impossible to say.

To me that doesn't seem like praying -- more like "hoping" (and "requesting").

But that is a subjective opinion (my opinion, not your opinion). If it seems like a "prayer" to you, then it is correct for you to say so. And the sentence in post #1 says it well.

Generally, a prayer is an utterance made by worshippers to their god.

Do you perhaps mean "request" or "suggestion"?
