What's the best way to translate this? I know it means something along the lines of 'vacuous smile' but I can't think of a better translation. Any help would be much appreciated!

Je dirais quelque chose comme "an idiotic smile" or "a silly smile" ?

    A vacuous smile sounds OK.
But an idiotic smile although correct is different from the smile of a simpleton - the latter is merely vacuous.
    A half-witted smile maybe.
    Or just a foolish smile.
