Hi

I would like to ask-
" Many billionaires have devoted their whole life to accumulating wealth, but they fail to spare enough time for their loved ones."
In this sentence, is it ok to use 'spend' to replace the 'spare'?

What's the difference between the two?

Thank you.

You spare time for your loved ones.
You spend time with your loved ones.

    Would the above help?
