Hi everybody! I need to translate this sentence: "La manifestazione vuole dare visibilità agli sport minori" This is my attempt: "The event wants to provide more visibility to less important sports" It sounds too literal for me. Thanks for help and corrections.
Non mi piace il fatto del più o meno importante, forse meglio tradurre sport meno conosciuti o meno comuni.
Io la scriverei così ...ma aspetterei il parere di un nativo...
The event is to boost less common sports activities.
I, too, don't like to refer to them as 'less important' or 'least important' sports.
Perhaps a better way to define them would be to say, sports with less media exposure, or just 'less popular' sports.
I agree with your opinions...
"Sport minori" underlines a negative meaning and I think that in my context can be translated as "sports with less media exposure".
I'm referring to volleyball, basketball and tennis: they aren't uncommon sports at all; the questions concerns their media exposure in Italy.
Thanks for your help!
Take for example sports in the USA, baseball, American football, basketball, ice hockey and golf have a huge media exposure, whereas Soccer, which is the most popular sport in the world, is not as popular in the USA.
