is there any difference between squeal and squeak?
Not much difference, but if you are talking about the sound a person makes, squeal would be more common than squeak, and if you were talking about the sound a thing makes, squeak might be more common than squeal.
She squeals with delight.
The wheel squeaks.
I'd say a squeak lasts a little, and yes, issued by something inanimate, and a squeal is longer, and emitted by a sentient creature (in distress)
Thanks again txpaddler and MA!
