What's a stage-burglar?

"The man was talking in a cockney accent like a stage-burglar's". Is there a difference with a "burglar"?

    It probably means that the man was using the sort of fake accent that might be used by an actor playing the part of a burglar.

    Why would a burglar necessarily have a cockney accent??? That doesn't make sense to me. Burglars can speak any language, with any accent.

    That's very true, but there are certain stereotypes in the theatre that have the advantage of being instantly recognizable.
