stage de découverte de l'entreprise

Hello everyone

I'm currently updating my CV. I have done a 6-weeks internship as a blue collar-worker in a company. The aim of the internship was to discover the business and economic world. So I need a translation for "un stage de découverte de l'entreprise" or "un stage de découverte en entreprise".

The thing is my CV is quite full and I have only one line to talk about it !

Here is my attempt:


  • January 2010 - March 2010 : a 6-weeks discovery internship at COMPANY
Any suggestion ?
 
    • It sounds like "internship" would sum it up just fine, since the purpose of an internship is precisely to explore and discover an industry/professional area through direct experience. I would modify internship with "business" so it is clear you were on the business end of the company. So it would read simply:

    Six week business internship at _COMPANY_

    Note that it is six week and not six weeks. I'm not sure why...just one of those peculiarities of language I suppose!

    an Engineering diploma course I'm translating information about has three types of internship: a stage découverte, a stage assistant ingénieur, and a stage de fin d'études, so I think the student takes on different sorts of roles in these internships, the last one being almost an employee.
    I would say it is necessary to make some sort of distinction in English. Perhaps an "introductory internship" for the "stage de découverte".

    Most French engineering schools have these "stage découverte" or "stage ouvrier" or "stage opérateur". This is not seating in an office discovering a job similar to the one you are training for: this is blue collar work, so that you are not completely naive and out-of-touch with the realities of the people who'll actually build the stuff you'll design.
    The second one would be closer to the job, doing little things while closely supervised, and the last one is indeed a bigger deal, actively taking part in actual projects of the company with some supervision.

    However I do hope they don't just leave it at the job title and actually describe all that :rolleyes:
