Hello, in theInternet Crime Report for 2011 (see p. 20 at http://www.ic3.gov/media/annualreport/2011_IC3Report.pdf) I came accross the following piece of advice:

Know who you are doing business with–do your research. Contact the state Attorney General’s Office or the state corporation commission, to see if there are any registered complaints.

I don't know how to interpret the expression "state corporation commission" within the European context (the original text describes the situation in the U.S.). I suppose it is a "state-adminstered body for keeping track of business entities". But it is just a guess based on previous internet search (e.g. http://www.scc.virginia.gov/comm/about.aspx) Is there a court or a different body like that in the Great Britain? Or elsewhere in Europe? I am not aware of anything alike in the Czech Republic. Thank you for your help.
