Epps and Munder get on the ancient liner:

Epps: Lifeboats are gone, stern to bow.
Munder: Life preserver lockers are empty.

What is the menaing of "stern to bow"?
I know "Stern" and "Bow" are terms for the front and the back of the liner.

They are all gone. 'Stern to bow' means the entire length of the ship, but I have never heard it used. All sailors I know say 'stem to stern', the stem being the very front edge of the hull, but this would probably leave the audience scratching their heads, so the scriptwriter changed it.
