Hello everyone,

From the book (on ice hockey) 99: Stories of the Game by Wayne Gretzky.

"They had Hatcher and Matvichuk, really tough defensemen, and they had Nieuwendyk and Modano up the middle. Their coach, Ken Hitchcock, had them playing as a stingy team, whereas Colorado was more of a skating, offensive team."

stingy
1. Giving or spending reluctantly.
2. Scanty or meager: a stingy meal; stingy with detailonary.com/stingy

I'm still not sure what a styngy team is.
Does it mean a team that does not want to play offensively, in an attacking manner?

Thank you.

I am no expert in hockey but I think it is a counter-attacking strategy: a stingy team plays defense the whole game and only waits for an opportunity to "sting", that is to score.
