Hi,
in this sentence: " We waste time as students straggle in late." what is the meaning of straggling in late?

    The students "wander" into the classroom later than they should, possibly not hurrying or even visibly distressed about the fact that they should have been there earlier.

    Alternatively it could refer to students who are tardy, wandering in in ones and twos, meaning that a few enter the classroom at a time. One enters a minute late, then two enter three minutes late, two more enter five minutes late, another enters a few minutes after that, etc.
