Strip something <off / out of> something

An ex-counry music star starts to work with a pop music producer. He says to the singer:

"All we got to do is strip that last little bit of country twang out of your voice, and we're golden."

(Nashville)

I think "strip" means "remove" here, right?

If so, if he used "off" instead of "out of", would the meaning change and would be correct anyway? (strip that last little bit of country twang off your voice)

Thanks for your help.
