Hola, me pregunto como se dirá el inglés, subir o bajar la temperatura ( de un aire acondicionado) o subir/bajar el volumen ( de una tele, radio)

Put the volume higher? Lower the volume?
Raise the temperature? Lower the temperature?

  • subir: "turn up" (the radio, the air conditioning, the tv, etc.)
bajar: "turn down" (the radio, the air conditioning, the tv, etc.)

También se puede usar "raise/lower" para hablar del volumen o de la temperatura, pero las frases con "turn" se usan con más frecuencia.

Digo "raise/lower the volume" más que "turn up/down", pero en otros casos uso "turn up/down" como he escrito Zarria.

If the TV's too loud, you say "Turn it down!"
But if it's too cold in the house, do you turn up the AC or turn it down? It can be confusing, because to turn down the AC, you turn up the thermostat, and vice versa. :)

That's right! We have the same problem in Spanish "baja el aire por favor" for most people means "it's too cold", but many may understand "lower the temperature please"

I agree that the normal way in AmEn is "turn up/down," but in casual speech, I usually hear "sound" rather than "volume" (although both are used).

    Ex.
Turn up the sound; I can't hear the TV over the lawnmower next door.

In BrE it's pretty much just "turn it up" or "turn it down". In the US, I noticed that raise and lower were also fairly common. I was once asked to lower the TV, so I put it on the floor.
