Yes. Here it means that they’re “so much” a part of us (a part of us to such a [large] extent / so large an extent).
I don’t think it means they’re necessarily a big part. It’s saying they’re such an entrenched/ingrained part of us.
They are ingrained part of us to the extent that we often take them for granted?
