Sun Belt

How would you translate "Sun Belt" into Italian? The sentence is "The population declined and there was a migration to the Sun Belt areas of California and Florida"
My attempt is"La popolazione diminuì e ci fu una migrazione/spostamento verso la SUN BELT della California e della Florida"

Because it is name of a geographical ragion, it is not translated in many languages.
In Italian some geographical names are translated (Stati Uniti d'America) others are not (New York, Los Angeles) I saw "sun Belt" sometimes translated as "Cintura del Sole" but within quote, sometimes with the original name in parethesis.

I would say either "... le regioni della Sun Belt (cintura del Sole) ... " or, to be more explicit "... le regioni meridionali degli Stati Uniti [chiamate/note come] "Cintura del Sole" (Sun Belt) ... "
