supplementary food?

Hello Everyone,

In China, rice is the main food in everyday meal in our part, we usually have meat, vegetables, fruit etc, what is the standard name for these food?

supplementary food, auxiliary food? Could you give you suggestions here?

    Languages have words based on the common experience of the languages' speakers. What you have described is entirely outside the experience of native speakers of English (our diets tend to be built around meat as the main food), and therefore we have no ordinary term to describe the Chinese practice.

    Rice is the staple food or basic food in China. The rest is 'additional', I suppose.
    'Auxiliary' isn't the right word but I think you could use 'supplemented by...'.

    You are right about that, can the other foods as a whole except the meat be called supplementary food?
