Dear all,
this is from the story by Adam Johnson Interesting Facts.

In spring the surf sorrel, considered an aphrodisiac by the Miwok peoples, open their gate-folding leaves.

For some reason surf sorrel encounters very rarely in the Web. I guess surf sorrel is Rúmex maritimus. Is this correct?

I've never heard of surf sorrel, but your guess looks pretty good to me. Rumex martimus (commonly called golden dock) seeds are said to have aphrodisiac properties, it's in the sorrel family and it grows in California.
