Surpass hopes/expectations

Hello,

Is it natural to use "hopes" or "expectations" in combination with the verb "surpass", for instance:

By winning the match, the team surpassed my expectations.

The fact of not having to take the antibiotics surpassed her hopes because she thought she would have to take it for at least 2 weeks.
