Swahili: Chewa

Hello,

The word "chewa" is used in Swahili and it is supposed to be derived from Turkish. In Swahili it has roughly two meanings:

1. It is used as a morning greeting: Chewa? How are you this morning?
2. An easterly maritime wind

Is there anything similar in Turkish?

Hmmm... I don't think it's Turkish.
It's sounds Persian but "w" does not exist in Farsi.
It can't be Arabic because "ch" doesn't exist in Arabic.
"W" is a very rare sound in Turkish. So much so that it's not even recognized as a letter of the alphabet.

It could however be "cheva" or maybe Kurdish or something.

Though in English it's a nationality and language.

The first meaning sounds like Arabic صباح ṣabāḥ (al-xayr) that means "(good) morning". The other meaning (wind) resembles another Arabic word صباء ṣabā' that is the name for the wind. The two words are not related.

"w" does not exist in modern Iranian Persian, but it does in local dialects and non-Iranian Persian. Semitic ص ṣ and non-Semitic "ch" have been historically used to represent each other.
